Mayor Ed Selich reports
City Hall planning is on schedule for June 10th when the architect’s stipends are to be awarded. Recommendations Review included the street Farallon not connect through to MacArthur, limiting access to City Hall from MacArthur, access issues with medians, turn lanes, traffic signals, etc. to give architect’s the parameters within which to design. Since there is too much confusion at the library access through CDM Plaza, a separate driveway entrance to the Main Library will be created where the book drop is currently located. A suggestion was made to video stream the architect’s presentations for public viewing.
Tommy Bahama Restaurant received approval for outdoor dining in front since interior remodel resulted in reduced seating capacity
BID (Business Improvement District) update on the 18 King Palm trees that are still missing because they were not available; smaller ones were purchased and will be allowed to grow before planting
At the “Relay for Life” event a Fender guitar autographed by Dick Dale will be auctioned off; proceeds to benefit the Cancer Society
Councilman Keith Curry reports:
The dedication of the Marines Memorial will be at 1:00 on Memorial Day
Ground breaking ceremony for Newport Coast Park has been scheduled
Oasis Center closes this fall with classes moving to the Newport Coast community center
City budget talks are beginning

G. Treasurer Marge Sawyer reported $2, 925.05 in the treasury; the invoices for the postcards & newsletter mailings have been paid

Membership update results are 118 new members so far this year; 70% have supplied email addresses. Membership breakdown is as follows: 55% from the Flower Streets, 22% from planned communities and 23% members at large
Website Topic; since a ”Parking Study” is being conducted (the last study was done in 2000), what specific problems are being experienced by residents? It was suggested that several different parking areas throughout CDM would be better than one lot; is elevated parking for business employees feasible; include a summarization of the parking study meeting; our community feedback would contribute to the study. Consider asking the consultants to speak
I. Planning Commissioner Michael Toerge reports
Owner of Begonia property at Pacific Dr. and Bayside Park desires to place the home site on a portion of the property with a steeper grade which would improve the view from the park; requires a variance. Panini Use Permit approved by Planning Commission; exploring extra parking options. Aries project still being refined. Von’s Pavilions has 55,000 sq. ft. with 20% of its revenue coming from alcohol sales; they requested & received a wine tasting permit. The proposed Rite Aide & Ruth Chris development site on Coast Highway north of Dover Shores doesn’t have permission from the state for a traffic signal at the site
J. PB&R Commissioner Debbie Allen reports she is termed out after Tuesday, June 3rd meeting; city applications are now closed for new commissioner
K. New Business:
It was suggested that the Port Theater property “tidy up”; code enforcement has been notified.
The Back Bay Science Center which opens Saturday May 31, 10 to 12 will have a teaching lab; see www.NewportBay.org for more information.
